Here’s what many people in DuPage County don’t realize: three-quarters of low-income students never finish college. Not because they lack talent or motivation, but because they’re navigating a system that was never designed for them, without anyone to show them the way.
Green Halo Scholars changes that. We provide individualized college counseling and coaching to help motivated students get to and through college. Our staff includes former admissions leaders and school counselors.
Our methodology is research-backed. And we’re embedded in eight local high schools, where counselors hand-select scholars based on drive and commitment.
When you give, students build meaningful careers. Past scholars mentor current scholars who mentor future scholars. A cycle of success takes root right here in DuPage County.

Does Green Halo give out scholarships?
No. We do something better. We connect students with funding, schools, and support systems that already exist but would be invisible without expert guidance. Our 8 college partners commit to meeting full financial need for admitted Green Halo scholars.
How are scholars selected?
High school counselors at our 8 partner schools hand-select students based on GPA (3.0+ unweighted), first-generation and/or low-income status, and demonstrated motivation and commitment.
What does the program involve?
Scholars make a six-year commitment beginning junior year of high school through college graduation. They receive individualized college counseling, financial aid strategy, best-fit college matching, and ongoing coaching and mentorship.
Where does my donation go?
Every dollar supports the direct work of counseling and coaching scholars. Green Halo provides all services free of charge to students and families, compared to an average private college counseling cost of $6,388.
